Catch a Glimpse of the Future of Smart Bikes with Helios Bars
Catch a glimpse of the future of bikes via Helios Bars, launched today on Kickstarter and tearing it up with over 34% of their goal raised in just a few hours.
Helios is a super-bright LED bike light and turn signal system that talks to your phone over bluetooth LE. It’s a beautiful product and comes fully integrated into handlebars that the team says will install easily on most bikes. We probed them on that design choice. They said they wanted a product that worked well vs. offering a component system and something that might be bulkier or stapped to the outside.
Increasing rider safety was a key goal. Helios includes lights that are visible to others from all angles and includes a 500 lumen main headlight (much brighter than standard bike headlights). The rear-facing handlebar lights allow drivers to easily see when the rider is slowing down or turning.
Integrated GPS means riders can track where their bike is or get alerted immediately if the bike is stolen. It also means that riders can track their routes and share data about their rides.
If you have Helios Bars, they light up when you walk up to your bike. It reminds me of how the Tesla’s door handles pop open when the owner approaches.
It’s clear this team is a passionate pioneer in the field of smart bikes and one to keep an eye on if you’re interested in tech and cycling.
Helios Bars is a great project so check out their Kickstarter today.
