Get Arduino Online with the new Arduino GSM Shield
Hot on the heels of Twine Cloud Shield announcement comes another way to get your Arduino projects online easily: The Arduino GSM Shield.
This Arduino add-in lets tinkerers add GSM connectivity for placing phone calls, sending SMS and sending data (making HTTP requests) directly from Arduino projects. Compared to the Twine Cloud Shield, this is a much more compact and simple implementation, however it of course doesn’t include anything like Twine’s web-based rules engine for making it easier to do something useful with that connectivity.
The device was created in partnership with Telefónica and it ships with a Telefónica SIM card. However, if you don’t live in one of the countries in Europe or South America where Telefónica operates, you should be able to pop in a SIM from another operator and be in good shape.
Code samples are online for making HTTP requests and posting to Twitter.
